The West Virginia University College of Education and Human Services—in collaboration with Autism Speaks—will celebrate Light It Up Blue in recognition of World Autism Awareness Day on Thursday, April 2 on the fourth floor of Allen Hall from 10 a.m. to noon.

Light It Up Blue was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to raise awareness toward autism as a growing global health crisis. It is celebrated annually on April 2 when thousands of iconic landmarks, communities, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families around the world affected by autism.

WVU will participate through raising awareness via giveaways, educational games and offering information about autism.

“Many individuals do not know or understand the facts regarding autism,” said graduate student Kaitlyn Goins, President of Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC). “This event will allow WVU students, faculty and staff to visit our table and celebrate autism awareness with us.”
