Maj. Gen. James A. Hoyer will be the keynote speaker at West Virginia University’s annual WVU Veterans Appreciation Breakfast, Monday, Nov. 12 from 8-9:30 a.m. at the Erickson Alumni Center.

As adjutant general, West Virginia Joint Forces Headquarters-West Virginia, Hoyer commands more than 6,500 citizen soldiers and airmen in the West Virginia Army and Air National Guard.

All veterans within the WVU community are invited to attend.

Also providing remarks is Jamie Summerlin, who embarked on a 100-day cross country run earlier this year as a fundraiser to support fellow military members through the Wounded Warrior Project. Jack Bowman, the civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army for West Virginia and WVU professor emeritus of law, will serve as the master of ceremonies.

The event is hosted by the President’s Office for Social Justice and Division of Human Resources. It will include a Presentation of Colors, National Anthem and “Taps.”

WVU’s Faculty Senate has designated Veterans Day as a “Day of Recognition,” which gives WVU veterans/military students the option to miss classes on Nov. 12 in order to participate in events and ceremonies. Instructors have been asked to make allowance for veterans/military students to be excused from class. Supervisors are asked to be flexible to permit WVU employee veterans to attend the Veterans Appreciation Breakfast.

Transportation will be provided for WVU employee veterans and student veterans to attend the breakfast. Pick up will be in front of the Mountainlair at 7:45 a.m. Following the event, return transportation will be provided to the Mountainlair.
