Talented high school flute students are invited to attend Flute Camp at the Creative Arts Center on the WVU Evansdale Campus June 23-26, 2010.

Sponsored by the WVU Community Arts Program, the camp is open to all high school flutists who are entering grades 9-12.

WVU flute professor Francesca Arnone is presenting this special event. She will be assisted by Dr. Sandy Schwoebel, a flute professor from Pima Community College, and WVU student-faculty.

Flute Camp promises to once again be a popular, high-quality educational experience for young flutists interested in a fun, yet concentrated, flute program.

This year’s program will include flute master classes, small group lessons and tone and technique classes, as well as electives in music theory and practicing strategy, chamber ensembles and large flute choirs. There will also be faculty and camp recitals, exhibits and a Gala Concert for family and friends.

Arnone is director of the WVU Flute Choir and a member of the WVU Laureate Wind Quintet.

She earned flute performance degrees from the Oberlin College Conservatory, the San Francisco Conservatory and the University of Miami. She has served as principal flute of the Boise Philharmonic for four seasons and as piccolo of the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra since 1997.

Prior to this, she was co-principal and piccolo of the Orquesta Sinfonica de la Universidad de Guanajuato in Mexico.

Arnone has performed with the Florida Philharmonic, the Florida West Coast Symphony, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Missouri Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife in Spain, among others.

A winner of the National Flute Association’s doctoral dissertation and convention performer competitions, Arnone enjoys a diverse career as a performer and educator playing and teaching flute worldwide.

Tuition for Flute Camp is $150, and includes all activities except housing and meals.

Private lessons will also be available for an additional fee.

The registration deadline is June 1, 2010. Those who register by May 1, 2010 will receive a $25 discount.
