The Center for Writing Excellence at West Virginia University invites alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of the University to join thousands of writers throughout the nation by sharing their writing in an online gallery titled, Celebrate Writing at WVU.

The online gallery is part of a national initiative hosted by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). As a local partner gallery, WVU joins NCTE in celebrating composition and demonstrating how integral writing has become in daily 21st century life.

“Whether it’s a memo, story, poster, brochure, school assignment, handwritten letter, postcard, email, business plan, blog entry, or poem, everyone has something important to share. We want to celebrate writing at WVU in all its forms and receive contributions from as many people as possible,” said Laura Brady, director of the Center for Writing Excellence.

Gallery curators Laura Brady, Jennifer Harbaugh, and Jay Dolmage invite and encourage everyone with any connection to WVU to submit a piece of writing.

“We welcome not only WVU students, teachers, parents, staff, alumni, and retirees, but also area business owners, neighborhood residents, state legislators, WVU fans and more,” Brady said.

NCTE guidelines allow writers to submit only one entry per gallery. Writers can upload documents or scanned copies of handwritten work to the gallery website at http://writing.wvu.edu

The deadline for submitting new or existing work is October 12. Compositions will be unveiled when the gallery opens on October 20 – the National Day on Writing.

For more information and to submit writing, visit the Celebrate Writing at WVU Web site at http://writing.wvu.edu.
