West Virginia University students and staff have been recognized by the state chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for promoting the University and its partnerships with communities and fellow Mountaineers around West Virginia.

University Relations won six Crystal Awards and three honorable mentions at the chapter’s Crystal Awards Gala held in Charleston on June 15. The Crystal Award is the top prize in each of the association’s award categories. “Through our stories, we share the life-changing education, research and service that our University community contributes to every day,” said Vice President for University Relations Sharon Martin. “I am proud of the hard work, dedication and creativity that our team puts into each project.”

As part of their coursework, students in Rita Colistra and Geah Pressgrove’s strategic communications capstone classes at the WVU Reed College of Media give back to the community through service-learning projects. Their work earned four Crystal Awards and two received honorable mention awards.

In addition, the WVU Reed College of Media was recognized with six Crystal Awards and four honorable mention awards. “We are honored to be recognized among the many accomplished communications professionals in the Mountain State,” said Dean Maryanne Reed. “From videos and media kits to special event campaigns and news releases, the breadth of work produced by our program showcases the talent of our students faculty and staff.”

The communications team at the WVU College of Business and Economics was honored with a Crystal Award and two honorable mention awards. “We are elated at this recognition of the exceptional work by our communications team,” said Nancy McIntyre, B&E interim dean. “From news that happens at our college every day to our social media channels, and from marketing everything our college does to our website, the team is charged with handling it all. Kudos to our Office of Communications & Marketing for this great recognition.”

The WVU School of Medicine received an honorable mention award for efforts to recruit students to its professional programs.

Chartered in 1979, the West Virginia Chapter of PRSA is an organization consisting of public relations professionals in the state.
