Representatives from the Big 12 athletic conference schools will meet on the West Virginia University campus this week for the 2016 Chief Student Affairs Officers Meeting, which includes vice presidents of student life from around the Big 12.

The group will gather May 23-25 to discuss topics most on the minds of chief student affairs officers related to the college student experience and opportunities to strengthen the pathways for student success. Representatives from the WVU Division of Student Life will also have the opportunity to showcase some of WVU’s most exciting programs and facilities as well as the state’s natural resources and recreation.

“I am thrilled to be showcasing our beautiful campus, Morgantown community, and state to our colleagues from the Big 12,” said Vice President of Student Life Dr. Bill Schafer. “I’m excited to tell the rich story of Student Life at WVU to our Big 12 counterparts. I know they will be impressed by what they see.”

Presentations and roundtable discussions include, but are not limited to: Greek Life, collegiate recovery, health and wellness, public-private partnerships, fiscal challenges, diversity and inclusion, Title IX, retention and program assessment.

President Gordon Gee will join the group this evening (May 23) for a Bluegrass and barbecue event at the Westvaco Natural Resource Center. The group will also have the opportunity to participate in a brief tour of WV, hike at Cooper’s Rock, and meet in the West Virginia and Regional History Center at the WVU Libraries to listen to a presentation by John Cuthbert, curator of the exhibit. The event will wrap up on Wednesday morning with roundtable discussions.
