West Virginia University Police Chief Bob Roberts is being recognized for his commitment to supporting employees who serve in the National Guard or Reserve.

Roberts has been selected to receive the Patriot Award, given by the West Virginia Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

“Along with myself, many members of our department are veterans and we understand the commitment being made by this generation to keep us free and safe around the world,” Roberts said.

ESGR was established in 1972 by the federal government to promote cooperation and understanding between reserve component members and their civilian employers, and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.

“I am proud to accept this award for our department and West Virginia University for our continued support for the troops,” Roberts said.

ESGR will recognize Roberts during a May 25 ceremony at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke.
