The West Virginia University Extension Service oil and natural gas education team is hosting a conference for all West Virginians to increase their understanding about natural gas industry trends, impacts and laws.

The conference takes place on Wednesday, May 18 at the Bridgeport Conference Center at Charles Pointe in Bridgeport. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Cost is $10 and can be found at bit.ly/NatGasConf16.

The conference theme is “your land, your decisions, your options,” which organizers say reflects a special focus on landowners who want to know more about how the industry currently affects them and their property.

“For our fifth offering, we’re taking a widespread look at all the issues that we get the most questions about,” said Georgette Plaugher, WVU Extension Service program coordinator. “We want to give landowners the most up-to-date, complete information possible so they can decide for themselves about the choices they may have when it comes to their property and livelihood.”

Attendees can learn about a variety of topics including updates about the industry as a whole, regulation changes, taxation and property assessment, land and wildlife reclamation, pipeline safety and more.

Presenters include WVU faculty, local government officials and representatives from the West Virginia Royalty Owners Association, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection and West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources.

With natural gas topics on the mind of property owners across the state, WVU Extension Service’s oil and natural gas team aims to provide unbiased programming based on expertise and knowledge to help the citizens of West Virginia make informed decisions about the natural gas industry.
