Nate Ditzler, a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts degree in the West Virginia University School of Art and Design, will present his MFA Thesis Exhibition at the Creative Arts Center’s Laura Mesaros Gallery, March 7-11.

There will be a reception for the exhibition Thursday, March 9, at 5 p.m. at the gallery. All events are free and open to the public.

Titled “A Case of the Mundanes,” the exhibition consists of several mixed media sculptural works that address Ditzler’s investigation into seemingly trivial and overlooked moments of the everyday. They are derived from the simplicity and playfulness of children’s book illustrations and single panel comics. His work integrates this minimalist aesthetic with nuances of humor to bring lightheartedness to the foibles and anxieties found in everyday life.

Ditzler grew up in Hawaii and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His sculptures are featured in public collections, including The Hawaii State Foundation for Culture and the Arts and the Mayor’s Office for Culture and the Arts. Ditzler has artwork in private collections in the United States, Switzerland, and Canada. Since 2007, he has shown in galleries, juried exhibitions and group shows internationally. Most recently, he had a solo show in Honolulu.
