West Virginia University has started to construct this year’s Toy Mountain. Each year, the WVU community donates toys throughout the holiday season, which are given to Christian Help.

Toy Mountain will be constructed from community donations until Dec. 15 in the Mountainlair. WVU faculty, staff and students are encouraged to help by donating unwrapped toys valued at $5 or more.

Student Engagement and Leadership and the Student Government Association will officially kick off their annual toy drive, to help build Toy Mountain, at the men’s basketball game vs Kennesaw State on Saturday (Dec. 5) at the WVU Coliseum. Fans are also encouraged to bring a new toy to donate at Sunday’s (Dec.13) game against UL Monroe.

The annual Students Helping Other People, also sponsored by Student Engagement and Leadership and SGA, will raise money to buy presents for underprivileged children in and around the Morgantown area.

This year, Student Engagement and Leadership and SGA will partner with WVU Student Family Resources to grant the “wish lists” for 50 children (ages 5-12) of WVU students who are parents. The presents will be purchased and wrapped then given to the children at a pizza party on Dec. 12th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WVU Student Recreation Center. Mr. and Mrs. Claus will visit with the children during the party.

“Toy Mountain and SHOP are two great ways to give back to the Morgantown community,” said Sue Fusco, operations manager, Student Engagement and Leadership. “Our students are busy getting ready for final exams, but they find time to help out our community. I am very proud of them.”

If you would like to donate, you can either drop off your toy in the Student Engagement and Leadership office, Room 162 of the Mountainlair or place the toy in the donation bins that can be found across campus. Financial contributions can also be donated by noon on Dec. 11. Make checks payable to WVU S.H.O.P and mail to attention Susan Fusco, Student Engagement and Leadership, PO Box 6444, Morgantown, WV 26506.
