Monday, Oct. 19
ALUMNI IN RESIDENCE: Jeff Hanlon
Jeff Hanlon, who graduated from WVU’s School of Music in 1996, will return to speak to students as a part of the College of Creative Arts Alumni-in-Residence Series. He’ll talk about his career trajectory and the portability of performance skills in a presentation at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in Bloch Hall, 200A Creative Arts Center.

Tuesday, Oct. 20
ART UP CLOSE: “Justice”
Blanche Lazzell’s mural, completed in 1934 and titled “Justice,” is now a part of the opening exhibition of the new Art Museum of WVU and will be the subject of the next “Art Up Close!” event at the museum. The public is invited to come out and view the mural up close in the upper gallery of the Art Museum at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20. Bernie Schultz, professor of art history, and Art Museum curator Robert Bridges will talk about the mural’s significance and the conditions under which Lazzell created it during the Great Depression.

Wednesday, Oct. 21
GUEST ARTISTS: Joseph Robinson and Robin Driscoll
Joseph Robinson, former principal oboe of the New York Philharmonic, and Robin Driscoll, principal oboe of the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestras, will speak about their musical careers at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Bloch Hall, 200A Creative Arts Center. The presentation will be followed by an oboe master class and workshop, including performances by Robinson, Driscoll, and WVU professor of oboe Cynthia Anderson.

Thursday, Oct. 22 through Sunday, Oct. 25
MUSICAL: “Kiss Me, Kate”
The School of Theatre & Dance will present the classic and thrilling musical, Kiss Me, Kate, by Samuel and Bella Spewack, based on Wiliam Shakespeare’s “Taming of the Shrew,” with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The play is directed by Bryce Britton with choreography by General McArthur Hambrick, musical direction by James Kenon Mitchell, and vocal direction by Robert Chafin, and will be presented in the Lyell B. Clay Theatre on Oct. 22-24 at 7:30 p.m. and October 25 at 2 p.m. For tickets, call 304-293-SHOW (7469).

Sunday, Oct. 25
FACULTY RECITAL: Mikylah McTeer, Violin
Mikylah McTeer, associate professor of violin, will be joined by violist Shelly Tramposh of the Crane School of Music at SUNY-Potsdam, cellist Hannah Whitehead of the West Virginia Symphony, and violinist and WVU doctoral student Diego Gabete-Rodriguez for a recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, in Bloch Hall, 200A Creative Arts Center. The program will feature pieces by Aaron Jay Kernis, Bohuslav Martinů, Gareth Farr, Sergei Prokofiev, and Alfred Schnittke.

PAUL MESAROS GALLERY: John Pe�a, Printmaker, Monday through Saturday, 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Pe�a is a visual artist, illustrator and educator who makes art as a way of exploring the natural world and his daily interactions. He has attended a number of residencies including Skowhegan, Bemis & The Fine Arts Work Center. He was also the recipient of the 2012 Carol R. Brown Creative Achievement Award as an Emerging Artist and recently created an artwork for the Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh.
