The WVU College of Creative Arts will hold several auditions in 2015-2016 for prospective visual and performing artists interested in pursuing a creative arts education at WVU.
Auditions will be held at the WVU Creative Arts Center on six dates. Dance major auditions will be held on Nov. 6, Jan. 24 and Feb. 5. Music auditions will be held on Nov. 8, Jan. 23 and 24, and Feb. 6. Auditions for theatre, art and design majors will be held on Nov. 8, Jan. 23 and Feb. 6.
Students looking for advice and mentorship on the audition process, but not yet ready to audition are encouraged to attend the Fall Preview Day on Nov. 8.
“This day will serve as an informational session for students who are interested in learning about the audition and portfolio review process,” said James Froemel, undergraduate recruitment specialist for the College of Creative Arts.
Activities planned during the Fall Preview Day include faculty-led information sessions, discussions on careers in the arts, and behind-the-scenes tours of the Creative Arts Center. A complimentary lunch will be provided.
All degree programs in the College of Creative Arts, except for the B.A. in Theatre, require a portfolio review or an audition. Students entering the School of Music or School of Theatre & Dance programs are required to audition, while those entering the School of Art & Design program are required to submit a portfolio.
Prospective students must complete the online school application prior to attending auditions. Recommendation letters, a resume and a headshot can be submitted in person on the day of auditions.

“In addition to the degrees offered by the three schools in the College of Creative Arts, a multi-disciplinary studies major is offered as well,” said Froemel. “This program combines three minors of the student’s choice and constructs them into a major.”
Scholarship opportunities are also available from the College of Creative Arts. The audition days will also serve as an application for scholarship consideration.
All three schools in the college offer cash awards and scholarships that can equal a full tuition waiver.
School of Music scholarship recipients are chosen by audition. The criteria considered for these awards include musical accomplishments, scholastic record, and musical proficiency.
School of Art & Design scholarship recipients are chosen based on portfolio submissions that exceed basic competencies and abilities.
School of Theatre & Dance scholarship recipients are chosen on the basis of outstanding talent, academic achievement, and the potential for success in the program demonstrated by the student.
