West Virginia University will present a screening of a documentary designed to elevate awareness of sexual assault issues on college campuses nationwide.

WVU students are invited to attend the free screening of “The Hunting Ground” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the Gluck Theater of the Mountainlair. A panel discussion on sexual assault will follow.

Directed by Emmy Award-winning documentary director Kirby Dick, the film explores sexual assault crimes at colleges across the nation and their impact on victims.

Jessica Li, student program advisor for Greek Life, first viewed the film at a conference in January and worked with Greek leadership councils to acquire the rights.

“We felt that it was imperative to have proactive conversations about sexual assault prevention and to help educate students about the resources we have available on campus and here in Morgantown,” Li said.

Sponsored by WVU Panhellenic Interfraternity Councils, in coordination with the Office of Greek Life, the screening of “The Hunting Ground” dovetails with WVU’s It’s On Us” campaign, an ongoing effort to help students take ownership in the prevention and reporting of sexual assault. The campaign was created in conjunction with Title IX requirements that resulted from the Education Amendments of 1972.

All WVU students are invited to attend the screening and discussion panel.
