Megan Poole thinks of herself as Morgantown’s own Carrie Bradshaw. The fashion merchandising major from Holly Springs, North Carolina, sees a future for herself as a buyer or creative director.

While Poole has mapped out her professional career plans, her journey to West Virginia University’s Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design was unplanned. “I came to visit with a friend for fun with no intentions of being able to attend, but I fell in love with the campus and applied immediately,” Poole said. The decision meant creating a new life far from home. “Since I am from North Carolina moving to Morgantown was a big transition for me, and the community I’ve formed here feels like family.”

Poole has excelled in the classroom, but isn’t spending all of her time there.

“Last year I did the ‘Stand for Freedom’ for International Justice Mission and stood outside the Mountainlair all night to tell people about slavery; it was really challenging but also enjoyable,” Poole said.

Her proudest accomplishment while at WVU was the ability to successfully transfer from a small community college to a large university. “I was able to get really involved and maintain a 4.0 GPA,” Poole said.

As she prepares to move into the next phase of life Poole knows she’ll visit Morgantown. “I take pride in saying I am a Mountaineer, so I am excited to encourage others to attend WVU and reflect on my experiences here,” Poole said.

Her story is just one of many in which students at WVU found what they’re most passionate about while studying at the University. You can read more about her and watch see more pictures of her in action at http://projectme.wvu.edu/megan-poole.
