Gene Cilento, Glen H. Hiner Dean of the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University, announced the winners of the College’s outstanding teacher, researcher and adviser awards for 2014-2015. The awards were handed out at the College’s annual Honors Ceremony, which took place today (April 17).

Lizzie Santiago, teaching assistant professor in freshman engineering, was recognized as the teacher of the year. Also selected as outstanding teachers were David Graham, Afzel Noore and Yuxin Liu, Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering; Leslie Hopkinson, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering; and Richard Turton, Department of Chemical Engineering.

John Zondlo, from the Department of Chemical Engineering, was selected as this year’s outstanding adviser. Melissa Morris and Michelle Poland from freshman engineering and Nithi Sivaneri and David Solley of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering were also honored for their advising work.

Xingbo Liu, from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, was chosen as the College’s Researcher of the Year. Also recognized were Thirimachos Bourlai, Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, and Yu Gu, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

John Christian from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and Antarpreet Jutla, from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineers, were named New Researchers of the Year.

Earlier in the semester outstanding staff awards were presented to Robin Anderson, freshman engineering; Gina Buckhalter, dean’s office; Beth Corcoran, Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering; and Deborah Willis, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.
