West Virginia University will host the inaugural Evolution of Design event
Saturday (April 18) at the Waterfront Place Hotel from 1 to 6:45 p.m.

The event is a collaborative effort between the WVU College of Education and Human Services and the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design to showcase the works of WVU students and professionals across multiple disciplines.

Participating students and faculty will showcase their exhibits to attendees from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will feature a wide array of works from across campus, including documentaries, photo displays, videos, interactive experiences, lectures and virtual presentations.

“The Evolution of Design event was created to provide emergent West Virginia University student professionals with a platform to showcase and work collaboratively across disciplines with other emergent designers,” said Dr. Bernard Jones of the Department of Special Education.

The event will include a cocktail hour from 4 to 5 p.m. and will be followed by a fashion show from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. The cocktail hour and runway show are a collaborative effort between the College of Education and Human Services, the Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design, the Reed College of Media and the College of Creative Arts, the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Division of Student Life. Both are ticketed events; proceeds will be used toward undergraduate scholarships for participating colleges. Tickets can be purchased via the following link: http://epay.wvsto.com/WVU/WVUCEHS/.

The fashion show portion of the event will feature the work of two WVU alumni and fashion entrepreneurs – Farai Simoyi and Theresa Robinson, both graduates of the fashion, dress and merchandising program in the Davis College. Simoyi was recently honored as Designer of the Year at the African Diaspora Awards by Applause Magazine and was featured in Forbes Magazine as the designer behind the successful Nicki Minaj and Beyonce Collections. Robinson is co-founded of LABEL+thread, a contemporary luxury knitwear company that currently sells to 450 specialty stores nationwide.
