Carrie Parker has been named the director of the International Center for Performance Excellence and its publishing division, Fitness Information Technology, in the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at West Virginia University.

Parker brings more than 20 years of publishing experience with her. Combining strong customer relations and project management, along with service and operations management expertise, she plans to make FiT publications more accessible and promote rapid growth.

Throughout her career she has guided authors and editors during the publishing process, enhancing their experience and energizing them throughout project development. Parker’s knowledge reaches beyond North America into Asia and India, which she will draw upon as she continues the ICPE mission to support international educational initiatives and promote awareness at the local, national and international levels of the values and benefits of engaging in sport and physical activity.

“I could not be more excited to have the opportunity to combine my work knowledge and experience with my personal passion for health and fitness, as the director of ICPE/FiT Publishing,” said Parker, who will serve as ICPE’s fourth director.

Most recently, Parker served as director of U.S. Publishing Operations at Aptara Corp., where she created marketing strategies to grow business, strengthen existing relationships and create new partnerships with professional associations. She also focused on increasing the number of translation rights agreements for its publications.

The ICPE was created in 2004 to integrate FiT with CPASS. FiT was gifted to CPASS by its founders Andrew C. Ostrow and William L. Alsop, professors emeriti, in honor of Philip Ostrow (Andrew Ostrow’s father).

“The College is fortunate in hiring Carrie Parker as the new director for the International Center for Performance Excellence/FiT,” said Dana Brooks, CPASS dean and professor. “Carrie has a wealth of business and management experience and is a proven effective communicator, problem-solver and entrepreneur. She will be responsible for all aspects of the organization, including updating the Center’s Strategic Vision and Plan.”

FiT publishes textbooks, reference and trade books, eBooks, academic journals and electronic test products in coaching education, physical education, sport management, sport and exercise psychology, and sport sociology.

Throughout its 30 years, FiT has published nearly 200 titles. FiT has publishing alliances with international organizations, translation rights agreements in several different languages and contracts with international distributors that ensure the global sale of publications.

FiT publishes three peer-reviewed journals with editorial boards that span the globe and furthers FiT’s international position as a leading publisher in sport sciences. To more fully reflect its position, FiT recently unveiled its new brand, FiT Publishing, with plans for a more formal launch on its new website in 2015.
