The Mountaineer Mascot selection committee is looking for the next West Virginia University student to don the buckskins and shoot the iconic rifle.

Applications are now available for students interested in serving as the Mountaineer Mascot for the 2015-16 school year. Interested applications can receive an application at the Mountainlair information desk, the main desk at E. Moore Hall and the main desk at the Evansdale Residential Complex. Students may also download the application online from MIX or at http://studentlife.wvu.edu/student-life-resources/mountaineer-mascot-application.

Applications, along with completed essays and two letters of reference, must be submitted to the main desk in E. Moore Hall no later than Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.

The selection committee, which is comprised of students and staff from across the University, will review the applications and interview candidates on Feb. 14 at the Erikson Alumni Center.

The top four finalists will participate in a cheer off at the WVU Coliseum during the men’s basketball game vs. Kansas on Feb. 16. The newest Mountaineer Mascot will be named during the second half of the men’s basketball game against Texas on Feb. 24.

Interested applicants must be full-time WVU students, and should maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. The Mountaineer Mascot is required to attend all home football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball contests. The mascot will also travel select road sporting events and community events.
