The West Virginia University College of Creative Arts has signed an articulation agreement with Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont that will make it possible for students at the school to transfer their credits to the WVU Graphic Design program after two years.

Students who successfully complete the Associate of Applied Science in Graphics Technology from Pierpont will be able to apply approximately 60 credits to the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design in the WVU School of Art and Design.

Pierpont students who meet all the admission requirements at WVU will be assured admission to the University, at the junior level, where they should be able to complete the BFA program in two years.

“We are extremely pleased to forge this agreement with Pierpont Community and Technical College,” said John Hendricks, assistant dean for recruiting and retention in the College of Creative Arts.

“Both institutions share a common mission, and we feel this agreement provides a wonderful opportunity for interested students as they plan their baccalaureate degree at the outset of their college education,” Hendricks said. “The WVU College of Creative Arts looks forward to welcoming those students from Pierpont Community and Technical College who transfer to WVU in order to complete their BFA in Art and Design.”

Pierpont students who would like to be admitted to WVU must submit a letter of intent to the director of the School of Art and Design no later than the beginning of their last semester of study at Pierpont. They must apply to WVU and meet all undergraduate admission requirements for acceptance, which includes a portfolio of artwork and a successful review by the WVU Art and Design faculty.

The Pierpont students transferring to WVU will also be able to apply for financial aid and scholarships from the University and will have equal access to other student services.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our Graphic Technology students to continue their education at West Virginia University. Both programs will benefit with the interaction of Pierpont students from the School of Business, Aviation and Technology and students in the College of Creative Arts,” said Gerald L. Bacza, Dean of the School of Business, Aviation and Technology at Pierpont.

Students not admitted to the Graphic Design emphasis may elect to pursue a different concentration in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, such as ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, painting or intermedia/photography.

Other degree options include the BFA in Art and Design with teaching certification, the Bachelor of Arts in Art History or the College of Creative Arts Multidisciplinary Studies degree.

Admission to these programs would also be contingent upon satisfying all program and admission requirements.
