West Virginia University’s student-run radio station, WWVU-FM, has been nominated for an award for the most improved radio station in the country by the College Music Journal.

More than 600 non-commercial and college radio stations across the U.S. are eligible for the award, and WWVU-FM is one of five finalists.

The College Radio Awards is part of the weeklong CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival in New York, one of the world’s most important platforms for the discovery of new music and cutting-edge films.

Voting will take place on-site at CMJ Music Marathon. The winners will be announced at 4 p.m. on College Day on Oct. 23 in New York.

“These awards are among some of the most prestigious for college radio,” said Jim Guiliano, a junior communication studies major and program director at WWVU-FM. “I would like to recognize our music director and assistant music director Jared Peterson and Emmi McIntyre, our production director Jackson Montgomery and the entire station for their outstanding work.”

Last year, WWVU-FM was recognized in three categories for the annual College Radio Awards. The station was nominated for Best Community Resource, Biggest Improvement and Music Director of the Year for WWVU-FM’s Music Director Jimmy Fortuna.
