Alan Ingle (MPA ‘87, Ed.D. ‘91) has made a gift of $50,000 to establish a scholarship in support of West Virginia University’s Eberly College of Arts and Sciences. The new endowment is a tribute to his late wife, Karen Ingle (BA ‘88), of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.

This gift establishes the “Karen Logue-Ingle Memorial Scholarship,” an endowed fund that will provide scholarships for students majoring in psychology.

“Karen devoted her life to helping people,” Al said, “It is only fitting to keep her memory alive by continuing to help others who plan to do the same.”

When Al and Karen were newly married and raising children, their careers took them to many universities. Karen earned class credits in psychology courses at each stop along their journey. When Al came to WVU to take a job as the assistant director of facilities, both Karen and Al earned WVU degrees.

Karen started a business in Morgantown, called “Operation Rehabilitation,” that fostered rehabilitation for work-related disabilities.

Al recalls, “She was always into social services from the start. That’s what I remember most, she was devoted to helping people.”

Psychology is among the most popular majors in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, graduating nearly 200 students each year.

This contribution was made in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University. The $750 million comprehensive campaign, which is being conducted by the WVU Foundation on behalf of the University, runs through December 2015.
