Brian Day, a graduate of West Virginia University, will return to WVU to share his experiences in the health field and be inducted into the Jasper N. Deahl Honors Society.

Day, Senior Director of Advanced Analytics at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, credits WVU and the College of Education and Human Services for his preparation to work in health-related research. Day earned his Ed.D. in Educational Psychology from the CEHS.

He will present “An Unexpected Journey: From WVU to a Career in Data Analytics” at 2 p.m. on Thursday (April 17) in 405 Allen Hall. He will speak about his career with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Pittsburgh, where he has worked since 2001.

Day helps develop innovative strategies for analyzing trending data regarding disease and health care costs, return on investment models and conducts financial and clinical analysis for Highmark.

He has worked as a medical cost analyst, decision support consultant and Director of Medical Analysis & Clinical Modeling. In 2008, Day was recognized as a Highmark finalist for the prestigious Jefferson Award for public service, a prize considered by many in the field to be the Nobel Prize of volunteering.

“We are very pleased to welcome Brian to present, as well as recognize his professional accomplishments in the health care industry and his dedication to West Virginia University with his induction into the Jasper N. Deahl Honor Society,” said Associate Dean for Research M. Cecil Smith. “The College of Education and Human Services has always been recognized for our outstanding teachers, but it also works to prepare knowledgeable professionals such as Brian for careers in fields as diverse as industry, educational leadership and health care.”

The Jasper N. Deahl Honor’s Society was named after one of West Virginia’s greatest educators and first dean of the college and is part of “Giving Forward in Support of Education,” a mission of the college’s Alumni Association.
