Mark Wise has been selected as the assistant director of Building Operations at the West Virginia University Mountainlair.
Prior to joining WVU, Wise, a Morgantown native, spent 26 years working with the Board of Parks and Recreation Commission. During this time, he served in a number of capacities including park superintendent, assistant director and, most recently, director.
As BOPARC director, Wise spearheaded several projects including the reopening of the renovated Metropolitan Theatre, development of Hazel Ruby McQuain Park and Amphitheater, creation and construction of two dog parks, a disc golf course and a skate park and the administration of a collaborative agreement between the City of Morgantown and the Monongalia County Commission for the upkeep, maintenance and management of the 52-mile trail system in Monongalia County.
Additionally, he was responsible for the purchase and renovation of the Wiles Hill Community Building and Park as a permanent home for the BOPARC Senior Recreation Center, purchase and development of Dorsey’s Knob Park and Lodge and the funding, construction and management of the first Morgantown History Museum.
Wise also directed a staff that managed the day-to-day operations of programs and events, two swimming pools, an ice arena/sports arena, four major parks and six neighborhood parks.

Wise has served on the Metropolitan Theatre Commission, the Morgantown Museum Commission, Mon River Trail Conservancy, the Urban Landscape Commission, the Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Federal Corrections Institution Community Relations Board. He is also a certified leisure professional with the West Virginia Recreation and Parks Association.
Wise graduated from WVU with a degree in parks and recreation administration. He and his wife, Linda, have two children, also graduates of WVU.
