For years, people have been enjoying Dan Friend’s work. The former West Virginia University photographer has captured thousands of photographs featuring beautiful scenery, historic events, athletic events, campus scenes and much more.

Members of the Morgantown community are invited to view Friend’s latest works, as well as some of his most requested pieces, during a special open house on Friday, Feb. 28, from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Nutting Gallery at The Erickson Alumni Center. Friend will be on hand to discuss some of his newest work.

Friend began his career as a photographer at Friend’s Photo Studio where he shot school portraits and weddings. In 1984 he joined WVU’s Photographic Services where he worked for 27 years before retiring as manager of the department in 2011.

Today, Friend, who calls himself “semi-retired,” continues to pursue his passion for photography, capturing scenes and events that showcase the beauty and diversity of the world.

Friend’s love for photography started when he saw his first black and white print come to life in the developer tray. He enjoys using modern photography tools to create unique images that capture subjects as “he sees them.”

The exhibit will be open to the public through the end of April, Monday-Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
