With a growing alumni network now totaling more than 190,000 worldwide, the need for outreach and support to the Mountaineer community has become a vital part of the work of the West Virginia University Alumni Association.

WVU alumni Daniel W. and Judy K. Richards recognize the need for a greater emphasis on connecting graduates and have established the WVU Alumni Association President’s Fund at the WVU Foundation to assist in those efforts.

The couple provided a $20,000 initial gift to the Fund and hope that alumni and friends will show their commitment to WVU by supporting this endowment.

“The WVU Alumni Association has a big job to do. With hundreds of thousands of alumni across the globe and a small staff, resources that will allow them to connect those grads are critical,” said Dan Richards. “Judy and I know the important role they play in keeping our graduates informed, involved and engaged in the life of the University. We wanted to support their efforts and encourage others to do the same. This is a great opportunity to give back to our alma mater and to honor our good friend, Steve Douglas, who has served the University and alumni for more than 30 years.”

The President’s Fund will provide financial support for communications initiatives, chapter outreach, travel expenses, alumni events on campus, and other costs related to these activities. Donors making annual contributions of $1,100 will be recognized as a member of the President’s Fund.

Judy, a 1974 graduate of the College of Education and Human Services from Charleston, W.Va., and Dan, a 1974 graduate of the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism, from Clarksburg, W.Va., reside in Ontario, Calif.

The gift was made in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University. The $750 million comprehensive campaign being conducted by the WVU Foundation on behalf of the University runs through December 2015.
