West Virginia University’s Center for Service and Learning is collecting Dollars for Disaster to help aid in the recovery from Typhoon Haiyan, which ravaged much of the Philippines last week.

The WVU Center for Service and Learning is asking students, faculty, staff and student organizations to become involved with Dollars for Disaster: Project Philippines in an effort to provide support to those affected by Typhoon Haiyan.

The Center for Service and Learning will provide assistance and support materials to any groups wanting to help. The biggest need at this time is for monetary donations.

WVU’s McNair Scholars will be collecting donations Monday through Wednesday (Nov. 18-20) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Mountainlair.

Donations can also be mailed to the Center for Service and Learning at PO Box 6412, Morgantown, WV 26505. Please contribute by donating cash or checks made out to the American Red Cross. Donations collected will be given to the local River Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross and will be used for Typhoon Haiyan relief in the Philippines.

All donations help the American Red Cross provide post-storm relief and services such as food, shelter and emotional support to those affected by Typhoon Haiyan. On rare occasions when donations exceed Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, funds are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters.

“Collections have gone well so far, and we want to thank all our donors. The Center for Service and Learning and American Red Cross are really hoping that faculty, staff and students can make a donation, because every bit counts, and no donation is too small,” said Alexis McMillen, program coordinator at the Center for Service and Learning.

If you are already collecting aid for this cause, please let the Center for Service and Learning know. It is available to provide assistance and promotion. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact Leah Cunningham at ccevista@mail.wvu.edu.
