Since his arrival in West Virginia in July 2010, Jose “Zito” Sartarelli has said that an increased focus on fundraising at West Virginia University’s business college could create new opportunities and attract the best business students. And if you did not believe that he meant it before, you do now.

Sartarelli, the Milan Puskar dean at the College of Business and Economics, and his wife, Kathy, have announced a gift of $100,000 to the business school. The Sartarelli Scholarship will be used to help recruit high level students to the business college.

“I strongly believe that a great school is made of great students, great faculty and staff, great programs, great facilities and a great name,” Sartarelli said. “This gift represents our contribution toward bringing great students to our beloved B&E.”

The scholarship funds will be used for recruiting incoming freshmen at the College of Business and Economics with a GPA of 3.8 or higher. High standards on ACT and SAT scores will be factors as well, and scholarships will be available to both in-state and out-of-state residents.

“I think this gift speaks volumes for the school and Dean Sartarelli’s commitment to the business school,” said Doug Van Scoy, the business college’s national comprehensive campaign chairman, a highly successful businessman and an alumnus. “Zito has outlined a mission for the school, and fundraising is part of that mission. He is deeply committed; we’ve had some great successes so far, and we’re looking forward to more in the future.”

“Kathy and I are very pleased to make this contribution to the College and to provide scholarships for high-achieving students. I hope this gift can motivate others, alumni and friends of the College, to contribute to our campaign and help us take B&E from a good school to a great school,” said Sartarelli. “West Virginia deserves it.”

The contribution was made in conjunction with A State of Minds: The Campaign for West Virginia’s University. The $750 million comprehensive campaign being conducted by the WVU Foundation on behalf of the University runs through December 2015.
