Middle and high school students from West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh will gather in Morgantown Saturday (Dec. 1) to learn about career options in sport management at West Virginia University’s Sport Management Academic Career Day. The event starts at 9 a.m. at the Coliseum and is hosted by the WVU College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, the WVU Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the WVU undergraduate sport management student organization.

It will feature student athletes and former and current club members and faculty.

Sara Kean, a scholarship athlete with WVU women’s soccer team and senior sport management student, will discuss life on campus, sport management courses, and internship experiences. CPASS Dean Dana Brooks will welcome participants to the event. David M. Fryson, chief diversity officer, Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, will address life on campus.

Former students who are participating include sport management alums: Marlo Thomas, Brea Conaboy, Cortez McNeil and Craig Walkup. They will discuss their careers and benefits of the WVU sport management major.

Faculty will explain how to apply, selection criteria, capstone projects and current courses. Sports management club members will present information on former and upcoming field trips, and group project presentation tips.

Participants will receive a tour of the Coliseum and new basketball practice facility. Following lunch, the group will tour the Mountainlair before attending the football game.
