West Virginia University students seeking jobs while in school this fall will have an opportunity to attend a pre-semester hiring event.

This event is organized by the Office of Student Employment, and will take place in the Mountainlair Ballrooms from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday (Aug. 6).

Students will have the opportunity to interview face-to-face or virtually with potential employers. Students who are not currently in Morgantown can schedule an appointment and interview via Skype. Susan Lantz, assistant director of student employment noted that the use of this remote videoconferencing technology was planned so that all students could participate in the event no matter where they are located this summer.

“We didn’t want the event to be available exclusively to students in the Morgantown area,” Lantz said. “This way every student who wants a job this fall has the opportunity to participate.”

Approximately 23 on-campus employers and four off-campus employers are scheduled to attend. Additionally, students who have been awarded Federal Work-Study will have the opportunity to talk to representatives at the event.

It is recommended that students bring: a copy of his/her fall schedule, two forms of identification and a voided check (For accepted forms of identification, see the list at http://payroll.wvu.edu/r/download/51006 ).

Parents and guests who attend the event with students are encouraged to go to the Bluestone Room in the Mountainlair and enjoy a “Flying WV” cookie courtesy of the Mountaineer Parents Club.

This is the second year of the event. Last year more than 240 students attended, and more than 200 obtained employment for the fall semester. At that event, 10 percent of the students attended the event virtually and were able to secure jobs using Skype from as far away as Oklahoma, New Jersey and Texas.
