The West Virginia University Police are seeking witnesses to an assault that occurred on Saturday (April 7) at approximately 2:45 a.m.

Two individuals returning to their vehicle parked in Area 1, across from White Hall off Willey Street, were struck and pepper sprayed by an unknown subject.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call WVU Police Capt. Phil Scott at 304.293.COPS (304.293.2677).

University Police remind students and the community of the potential risks associated with these acts of violence, which include: up to five years in prison and fines of up to $500. These acts can result in charges of malicious or unlawful assault, assault, or battery (State Statute 61-2-9) as well as civil suits or restitution orders resulting in the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars. These charges and penalties can also result in the loss of educational opportunities and lost earnings.
