Applications are now available to have a chance at becoming the newest Mountaineer Mascot.
For West Virginia University students interested in becoming the Mountaineer Mascot in 2012-13, applications can be picked up at the information desk at the Mountainlair, the main desk at E. Moore Hall and the main desk at the Evansdale Residential Complex. Applications are also available for download online at http://slate.wvu.edu/r/download/119245.
Applications will be given out until Feb. 3 and are due on Feb. 6 by 3 p.m. to the front desk at E. Moore Hall. Applications can also be turned in to Ross Werner at twerner1@mix.wvu.edu.
The selection committee, which is made up of fellow WVU students and staff members from across the University, will review applications in mid February and interview potential candidates on Feb. 18 to select four finalists.
Those finalists will participate in a cheer off at the WVU Coliseum during the men’s basketball game vs. Marquette on Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. The new Mountaineer Mascot will be announced in the second half of the WVU men’s basketball game vs. DePaul on Feb. 28.
The Mountaineer Mascot must be a full-time WVU student and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. The mascot must attend all home football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball contests. He/she will also travel to select road sporting events.
