West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Bob Huggins, will visit the WVU College of Human Resources and Education Nursery School, to kick off the Bear Care Project on Monday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m.

In conjunction with the WVU Association for the Education of Young Children and the Friends Gift Shop at WVU Hospitals, the project will donate 52 musical teddy bears to Mapleshire Nursing and Rehab Center residents on Monday, Nov. 21.

These Hug-A-Bears are WVU-inspired teddy bears that play “Country Roads.”

“The Country Roads music box will allow residents who are visually impaired or with multiple handicaps to enjoy the bears,” said Bobbie Warash, director of the WVU Nursery School. “Our children can also easily relate to the multi-sensory bears, which will teach them sharing and caring through the project.”

The Hug-A-Bears also support another charity, the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Foundation. For every bear purchased, $10 is donated to the foundation.

“The Bear Care Project is intergenerational: 4-year-olds, college students, parents and individuals in their 80s and 90s can take something away from it,” Warash said. “The Morgantown community is so tied together in such a good project.”
