With a tweet here and a check-in there, and a status update sandwiched in between, West Virginia University graduates told their own story of Commencement 2011, and the years leading up to it.

@MissHeatherInk: Today we get hooded, tomorrow we take over the world. #wvugrad

Using a hashtag of “wvugrad,” graduating seniors were invited to take one last Final, but this was one test that required no studying, and the results are a digital scrapbook of their college memories that they can always revisit to remember their great times at WVU.

@marc_b: Heading into my last undergrad final. Playing “Bittersweet Symphony” as I wait. Good song to summarize this moment. #WVUgrad

Using various popular social media outlets including Facebook, foursquare and Twitter, graduating seniors had the opportunity to contribute to “The Final” by submitting their WVU memories – favorite places on campus, sports traditions, academic interests, FallFest appearances, inspirational professors – the essence of what it means to be a Mountaineer.

The project also invited students to share photos and “become the teacher” by checking in on the popular foursquare app to leave tips and lessons learned for future Mountaineers.

WVU University Relations brought these user-generated submissions together in a special multimedia piece that will be sent to all for students to look back and reflect on their college years.

“The Final” is just the beginning. WVU hopes that students will continue to share their memories and stay connected with their alma mater through the WVU Alumni Association and WVUToday, as well as popular social media outlets.

@topherlover: @WestVirginiaU Morgantown is my hometown? WVU is in my blood forever
