This semester’s World Music Showcase Concert in West Virginia University’s College of Creative Arts will feature the WVU African Music and Dance Ensemble, two WVU Steel Bands, and the WVU Taiko (Japanese) Drumming Ensemble.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., Friday (April 15) in the Gladys G. Davis Theatre of the Creative Arts Center.

According to director Michael Vercelli, the repertoire will include music from Ghana, Trinidad and Japan.

“Highlighting the concert will be a World Premiere of a Taiko composition, ‘Mass Effect’ by student member John Lofink,” he said.

“Closing the concert will be the WVU African Music and Dance Ensemble’s performance of the war epic, ‘Agbekor,’ which the students learned this past summer at the Dagbe Cultural Institute in Kopeyia, Ghana.”

The concert is directed by Dr. Vercelli and graduate student Ryan Frost.
