West Virginia University leaders applauded Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin’s appointment Tuesday of Wheeling attorney William D. Wilmoth to the institution’s Board of Governors.

“Bill Wilmoth will be a welcome addition to the board,” said BOG Chair Carolyn Long. “He is a respected attorney and legal educator, and as a graduate of WVU and our College of Law, he has a sincere interest in his alma mater’s future.

“We welcome him to the Board,” she said.

“We look forward to working with Bill Wilmoth,” said President James P. Clements. “He will bring valuable experience to the Board and is coming in at an exciting time as we begin implementing our 2020 Strategic Framework.”

Wilmoth, a native of Elkins, is managing member of the Wheeling office of Steptoe & Johnson, where he is also assistant department head of litigation. He will fill the unexpired term of Ted Mattern who resigned to accept appointment as interim secretary of the State Board of Education.
