Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has announced the appointment of William D. Wilmoth to the Board of Governors at West Virginia University. The appointment is effective immediately.

“I am so pleased that Bill has accepted the appointment and will serve our state’s flagship university,” said Gov. Tomblin. “Though he graduated WVU sometime ago, Bill remains dedicated to educating future leaders at his alma mater and I believe he will be a valued addition to the Board of Governors.”

Currently, Wilmoth serves as managing member of the Steptoe & Johnson Attorneys at Law’s Wheeling office and as the firm’s assistant department head of the litigation department. Prior to joining Steptoe & Johnson in 1999, Wilmoth served as a United States Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia.

In addition to his extensive legal career, Wilmoth has also served as an evidence law instructor at West Virginia University, College of Law. He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education and industry seminars on commercial litigation and white collar crime issues. Wilmoth is a current board member of West Virginia Independent Colleges and Universities and a board member of the Education Alliance of West Virginia.

Wilmoth received his undergraduate degree and law degree from West Virginia University, College of Law.

He is a native of Elkins. He currently resides in Wheeling with his wife, Becky. The couple has four children; Charlie, Anne, Sam, and Peter.
