West Virginia University celebrated its 63rd annual Mountaineer Week Nov. 5-13 with a weeklong celebration of West Virginia’s Appalachian heritage.

From a craft fair to the annual beard-growing contest, the event shares the state’s Appalachian heritage with members of the WVU and area communities.

Events highlight music, dance, food and other characteristics of Appalachian people in a WVU setting. Besides the annual beard growing contest, popular events include the PRT cram, Mountaineer Idol and other awards. At the culmination of Mountaineer Week, the Most Loyal awards are presented to WVU supporters and employees. Also, two students who epitomize the blue-and-gold spirit are named Mr. and Mrs. Mountaineer.
