Coliseum Parking For Friday

November 9th, 2010

With four sporting events and five games taking place on Friday, Nov. 12, at the Coliseum sports complex, the following information will assist WVU students, staff, faculty and the general public with parking arrangements at the Coliseum that day.

Aside from the daily classes at the Coliseum, the complex will be the site on Friday of two basketball games, two NCAA women’s soccer first-round tournament games, a volleyball match and Mountaineer Visitation Day sponsored by the University.

“It certainly will be a busy day, but the athletic department has worked extremely hard to accommodate the fans and students who will be coming to the Coliseum on Friday,” says Associate Athletic Director for Business Operations Michael Szul . “There are many demands being placed on the Coliseum parking lots that day, and we have reached out to those affected to develop a plan that we believe will meet the essential needs of the different activities and those attending them.”

WVU athletic parking personnel will be on the Coliseum grounds beginning at 11 p.m. on Thursday to assist and direct traffic to the proper lots for the following:

WVU Students
Students who have classes in the Coliseum on Friday will be allowed to park in the Natatorium lot for free until 3:30 p.m. Students who don’t have classes in the Coliseum but in other areas of the Evansdale campus may park for free in the Coliseum lots near the Arboretum until 3:30 p.m. Space is limited.

Faculty and Staff
WVU faculty and staff that work at the Coliseum will be allowed to park for free.

Mountaineer Visitation Day
Students participating in Mountaineer Visitation Day will be allowed to park in the Coliseum lots for free. Visitation Day participants will be asked to leave the Coliseum parking lots at the conclusion of the campus event at 2 p.m.

Volleyball
Fans attending the volleyball game at 4 p.m., can park for free in the Coliseum parking lot, but must leave at the conclusion of the match. Fans attending the volleyball match and planning to stay for the men’s basketball game at 9 p.m. will be charged $20 for parking.

Women’s Basketball
Fans attending the women’s basketball game at 7 p.m., can park for free in the Coliseum, but must leave at the conclusion of the event. Fans attending the women’s basketball game and planning to stay for the men’s basketball game at 9 p.m. will be charged $20 for parking.

NCAA Women’s Soccer
Spectators attending the NCAA women’s soccer first-round tournament games at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium at 3:30 and 6 p.m., will be allowed to park for free in the Natatorium parking lot, but must leave at the conclusion of the second game. Those attending the soccer games who wish to stay for the men’s basketball game will be charged $20 to park.

Men’s Basketball
The proper parking passes will be required to park in the Coliseum lots for the men’s basketball game at 9 p.m. A limited amount of parking will be available for fans without parking passes for $20.

General Parking
All areas of the Coliseum parking lot will be blocked on Friday for the men’s basketball game, which reduces general parking for those who park in the Coliseum lots on a daily basis.

To offset this parking loss, all are reminded that short-term parking is available at Mountaineer Station on Van Voorhis Road, at a variety of short-term lots on the Evansdale campus, and in downtown parking garages and lots operated by the Morgantown Parking Authority. All of these alternatives have easy access to the PRT and Mountain Line bus system, which is free to WVU students, faculty and staff. Information on Morgantown Parking Authority, Mountain Line, short-term parking locations and the PRT is available at the Department of Transportation and Parking website – http://transportation.wvu.edu.

There is no overnight parking allowed at the Coliseum. Also, a limited number of parking spots by the Natatorium will be available for men’s basketball events at a cost of $20, starting two-and-a-half hours before game time. ADA parking is available at the Coliseum, with the proper credentials, for a cost of $20. New to the postgame traffic pattern this season is that traffic exiting the Coliseum gold lot will only be able to make a right turn.

Shuttle Service
Once again this year, the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will be running a shuttle in conjunction with Central Cab in an effort to help fans attending men’s basketball games. Fans are encouraged to park at the Green Lot across from the United Center on Van Voorhis Road and ride the shuttle to the games. Cost of the shuttle is $4 round trip and it runs 90 minutes prior to tip-off and 60 minutes after the game. The special service will pick fans up at the Green Lot and take them to the Coliseum Blue Gate prior to the game. At the conclusion of the game, fans can board the shuttle at the Blue Gate and will be transported back to their vehicles at the Green Lot.

PRT Service
PRT service is also available for 50 cents one-way on Friday. The PRT will run one hour after the conclusion of the men’s basketball game.

Football RV Parking
The Coliseum lots will open for football RV parking at midnight on Saturday, Nov. 13.
