West Virginia University’s WELL WVU Student Health wants to make sure all students have the opportunity to get their seasonal and H1N1 flu immunizations.

Clinics will be offered at the Student Recreation Center from 6-8 p.m. on Nov.4, and at the Evansdale Residential Complex in front of the dining hall from 5-7 p.m. on Nov. 8, 9 and 10.

The seasonal and H1N1 immunization will be offered in a singled combined vaccination. Student Health will be offering the vaccine at a cost of $15 to WVU students.

Everyone is required to show their WVU ID.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, influenza is a very contagious disease. Symptoms include fever, sore throat, chills, fatigue, cough, headache and muscle aches. Flu can lead to pneumonia and kills about 36,000 people each year in the United States, mostly among the elderly.

Flu vaccine is usually 80-90 percent effective in preventing illness from influenza virus, say health experts. It takes at least two weeks to build immunity after getting a shot.
