West Virginia University music professors John Weigand, clarinet, and James “Doc” Miltenberger, piano, will present a recital at the Creative Arts Center, Thursday, Oct. 21.

They will be joined by Hope Koehler, soprano, of the WVU music faculty. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Bloch Learning and Performance Hall (Room 200A) and is free and open to the public.

The program will feature the Brahms “Sonata in F minor for clarinet and piano,” and Koehler will join Weigand and Miltenberger for Mozart’s “Parto Parto” from “La Clemenza di Tito.” There will also be works by Carlos Guastivino and Bela Kovacs.

John Weigand has trained with world-renowned artists such as Robert Marcellus, Fred Ormand and Lawrence McDonald. His extensive chamber music experience includes concerts at the Blossom Festival at Town Hall in New York City and at Yale University. He has recorded for the Musical Heritage Society and has presented numerous solo concerts and clinics around the country.

“Doc” Miltenberger has given numerous solo recitals in cities such as Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C. and at Carnegie Recital Hall in New York. He toured Japan in 1985 as featured soloist with WVU’s Percussion 80 and has toured Europe several times with the Miltenberger Jazz Quartet. He also has appeared on nationwide television on PBS and on the NBC Today Show.

Koehler has appeared with many opera companies and orchestras throughout the United States. Her stage credits also include operetta and musical theatre, and she has performed as a soloist in oratorio and other choral orchestral works.
