West Virginia University is joining a community-wide effort to safely dispose of paint on Saturday (Oct. 16).

Monongalia County residents may take their latex and oil-based paints to Miller Environmental in the Airport Business Park at 514 Hartman Run Road from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Those bringing paint for proper disposal will be asked to show a driver’s license or property tax receipts proving they reside in Monongalia County.

Only oil-based and latex paint will be accepted.

There is a small fee for paint dropped off by the size of the container, not the quantity of paint. The charge is $5 per vehicle for up to 10 gallons. An additional $2 will be charged for each gallon container after that. The event organizers will only accept cash as payment.

The collection is sponsored by WVU, the Morgantown Utility Board, Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority, the City of Morgantown and the Monongalia County Commission. Organizing partners include Monongalia County Litter Control, WVU Extension, the Monongalia County Local Emergency Planning Committee, Monongalia County Emergency Service, Miller Environmental and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection.
