More than 100 employers from more than a dozen states will be on hand at the West Virginia University College of Engineering and Mineral Resources’ 10th annual Engineering and Computer Science Career Fair Oct. 6 and 7. The event will take place throughout the ground floor of Engineering Sciences Building and Mineral Resources Building on WVU’s Evansdale campus from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The event is expected to draw more than 2,000 students in search of high-tech internships and employment with a wide range of regional and national engineering firms, energy companies, manufacturers, government agencies, safety professionals and computer scientists.

Participating employers include Allegheny Energy, Chesapeake Energy, Dominion, FBI, Halliburton, CONSOL Energy, Inc., Milliken & Co., NASA, Schlumberger Technology Corp. and Siemens, to name a few. The event is co-sponsored by the College of Engineering and Mineral Resources and the WVU Career Services Center. Students can log on to MountaineerTRAK to see a full list of employers attending and that employer’s individual employment needs.

“There are many reasons why the career fair is important,” said Lloyd Ford, corporate relations program coordinator. “From the students’ perspective, it’s an excellent way to network with a wide variety of companies. It gives the student a way to go beyond his or her resume’, and allows recruiters to associate names on paper with faces. Making a good impression at the career fair can definitely lead to an interview, and quite possibly, a job offer.”

In addition to internships for current students and permanent employment opportunities for those approaching graduation, many companies offer cooperative education positions (co-ops), which involve periods of full-time work alternating with periods of full-time study in the student’s field of interest.
