Polish cinema clips, delicacies, music and a talk on the history and challenges will all be part of West Virginia University’s Polish evening.

The event will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 6-8 p.m. in the Mountainlair ballroom.

At 6 p.m., Professor Marek Konarzewski, a minister counselor for science and technology affairs at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, will present “Poland: Historical Legacy and Challenges of the 21st Century.” The event is free and open to the public.

A reception featuring Polish delicacies will follow. During that time, a montage of Polish cinema clips will be presented by Jessica Tapia, Russian and Eastern European studies bibliographer at the WVU Libraries, and Dr. Lisa DiBartolomeo, program coordinator for WVU’s Slavic Eastern European Studies Program.

During the evening, the sonata for cello and piano in G minor (Op. 65, CT. 204 by Fr�d�ric Chopin) will be performed by Professor William Skidmore from the WVU Creative Arts Center. He will be accompanied by guest pianist Carol Beall and doctoral student Mario Santoso, who will play Barcarolle in F-sharp minor, Op. 60 by Fr�d�ric Chopin.

This event is part of the Cultural Attach�s Program, where official representatives of nations located on different continents participate to inform the WVU community about their cultures and current themes of interest. The goal is to enhance the WVU community’s intercultural awareness and understanding of other peoples and cultures.
