Bring on the chicken.

Chick-Fil-A is coming to West Virginia University.

The national fast food chain – expected to open by January at the latest – will replace McCoys restaurant in the Mountainlair. McCoys will not open for the fall semester.

An independent survey conducted in recent years found that Chick-fil-A was one of students’ top three choices for food options in the Mountainlair.

“We love that we will be able to offer Chick-fil-A as an option for students,” said Michael Ellington, assistant vice president for Student Affairs. “We have been working for 10 months to secure this contract and are happy that we were able to come to an agreement.”

The restaurant will be open Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. and will be closed on Sunday. Breakfast and dinner options will be available for students using a meal plan. Mountie Bounty will also be accepted.

All of Chick-Fil-A’s signature fare will be offered, including its classic Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Deluxe Sandwich and Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich. Salad and chicken nugget options will also be available.

The restaurant will employ WVU students and approximately two full-time staff members to manage operations.

Construction is expected to begin on the restaurant in late September.
