Four students in the West Virginia University Davis College of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Design have gotten a head start on funding their continuing educations as medical professionals. They have received awards from the H.E. “Doc” Kidder Memorial Trust, which will provide them with thousands of dollars for each year of their post-baccalaureate instruction.
This year’s Kidder scholarship recipients are: Maria Dalzot, Morgantown; Andrea Garton, Jane Lew; Jennifer Lydon, Morgantown; and Erika Mastalerz, Morgantown. Each will receive $2,500 annually during their continued studies.
Dalzot is a human nutrition and foods major. A member of WVU’s Women’s Cross Country Team, she has received an NCAA Division 1 Athletic Partial Scholarship, Big East Scholarship, and Promise Scholarship. She is one of WVU’s 35 Foundation Outstanding Seniors for 2010. Dalzot has been accepted to WVU’s Dietetic Internship Program.
Garton is an animal and nutritional sciences major. She has received the Bucklew Scholarship, Promise Scholarship, Davis-Michael Scholarship, and the Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund – Valedictorian Scholarship. She is one of WVU’s 35 Foundation Outstanding Seniors for 2010. Garton has been accepted to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Lydon is an animal and nutritional sciences major. She has worked for four years at the Animal Sciences Farm in Morgantown as a veterinary technician. Lydon has been accepted to the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Mastalerz is an animal and nutritional sciences major. She has received the WVU Blue and Gold Scholarship and the Davis-Michael Scholarship. She has been accepted to the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
The memorial trust honors the late H.E. “Doc” Kidder, professor emeritus of animal and veterinary sciences in the Davis College. He had a distinguished career at WVU as a researcher and educator, serving from 1954 to 1988. After his death in 1989, his will created the trust to support Davis College students in their graduate or professional education. Selection is based on academic performance with added consideration for leadership and financial need.
