Seventeen-time Grammy award-winner Pat Metheny will bring his latest innovative musical project to the WVU Creative Arts Center on Tuesday, April 6. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased at the Mountainlair and Creative Arts Center box offices, online at ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW.

Over the course of more than three decades, guitarist Pat Metheny has set himself apart from the jazz mainstream, expanding and blurring boundaries and musical styles. His record-setting body of work includes seventeen Grammy Awards in twelve separate categories; a series of influential trio recordings; award winning solo albums; scores for hit Hollywood motion pictures; and collaborations and duets with major artists. His band, the Pat Metheny Group, founded in 1977, is the only ensemble in history to win Grammys for seven consecutive releases.

Metheny’s latest project, Orchestrion, will feature him performing all original compositions entirely alone—an ensemble presentation with no other musicians onstage. This new ensemble of mechanical instruments is controlled entirely through his guitar and compositional mind. Wired magazine writes that, “Not only does the visual spectacle of robots playing along with Metheny’s always-impressive guitar work hypnotize the viewer, but it sounds great for the same reason live orchestras sound so much better than CDs.”

With the ability to utilize new types of instruments that integrate conventional acoustic sound and robotic technology, Metheny creates a unique musical experience that captivates audiences worldwide. Billboard declares that “Orchestrion—especially on the rollicking title track and the percussion-tinged ‘Spirit of the Air’—surprises and exhilarates.”

Tickets for the concert range in price from $38 to $45, depending on seat location and may be purchased at the Mountainlair and CAC box offices, online at ticketmaster.com and by phone at 304-293-SHOW or 800-745-3000.
