Sixty-nine students in West Virginia University’s College of Business and Economics have qualified to be inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business students enrolled in programs accredited by AACSB International.

The students are juniors and seniors majoring in accounting, finance, business administration and marketing.

Established in 1913, Beta Gamma Sigma is the business equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa (liberal arts honor society) and membership is the highest honor bestowed upon graduate and undergraduate business students at institutions with AASCSB International accreditation.

“We are extremely proud of these outstanding students,” said Scott Fleming, Beta Gamma Sigma chapter president and assistant professor of accounting. “They have worked hard to achieve this honor and are examples to their peers.”

AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, is the longest-serving and largest global accrediting body for business schools, with more than 1,100 educational institutions and other organizations in 70 countries.

To qualify for membership a student must be in the top 10 percent of undergraduate students and the top 20 percent of the graduate students. There are more than 450 Beta Gamma Sigma chapters throughout the world.
