Living with a health condition can fill your mind with questions about its treatment and management. A new program by the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy aims to ease your worries and answer questions.

The WVU School of Pharmacy will launch its More About community health information program in November. The More About program will focus on a different health topic each month. A panel of medication experts and researchers will share information about a health condition, offer health management tips, explain how medications are administered and work, and describe research being conducted to improve treatment. The programs are free and open to the public.

“The goal of the program is to take experts on specific health conditions out into our community to answer questions and educate our local residents,” Rae Matsumoto, Ph.D. professor and associate dean for research and graduate programs in the WVU School of Pharmacy, said. “We hope that by providing our residents access to healthcare professionals to discuss their concerns, this will not only educate them about a condition, but will also empower them to manage their health.”

The November More About program will focus on diabetes in observance of American Diabetes Month. The free, hour-long program will take place at Suncrest United Methodist Church, 479 Van Voorhis Road, on Thursday (Nov. 12) at 6 p.m. A health fair will be featured, and the WVU School of Pharmacy Health Education Center will provide free blood pressure and glucose screenings from 5 to 6 p.m. In addition, free A1C testing – a measure of long-term blood sugar control – will be available to the first 40 attendees who request it. Attendees are invited to participate in the question-and-answer portion of the program.
