To present diverse, expert viewpoints on the controversial health care reform debate, the West Virginia University Young Democrats are hosting a health care policy forum on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Fukushima Auditorium of the Health Science Center.

Panelists will consider reform from various angles, including political positions and academic fields of study. Some of the speakers are:

• L. Christopher Plein, Ph.D., is an Eberly Professor of Outstanding Public Service. He is chair of the Division of Public Administration and also serves as an assistant dean for WVU’s Eberly College of Arts & Sciences.

• Michael Hendryx, PhD., is an associate professor in the Department of Community Medicine. He is also director of the West Virginia Rural Health Research Center.

• Stephanie Frisbee, M.S., is a professor in the Department of Community Medicine and a doctoral candidate. She is from Canada.

• Stratford Douglas, Ph.D., is an associate professor of economics. His research focuses in part on applied econometrics.

Attendees will be permitted to ask questions of the panelists. They can submit questions in advance to wvuhealthcareforum@gmail.com. They are asked to please specify a panelist to respond.

The forum is co-sponsored by the WVU Student Government Association. SGA is providing free refreshments.

The Young Democrats will have a booth with educational materials about health care reform at the WVU Mountainlair from 2-5 p.m. the day of the forum. Materials will also be available for review at the event.

The forum is free and open to both students and members of the community.
