(UPDATED 8/26/08)

In what many consider one of the most historic presidential election years in modern memory, West Virginia University law student Meghan B. Phillips is making some history of her own.

Not only is Phillips attending the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, she is reporting back via her blog on her experiences as a volunteer at the event, which continues through Thursday, Aug. 28. You can see what she has to share at http://meghansdemocraticnationalconvention.blogspot.com/

Besides volunteering to work at several events during the convention, Phillips is also attending as the state party liaison for the College of Law Democratic Law Caucus .

I want to see what other Young Democrats organizations are doing for the upcoming campaign, said Phillips, a native of New Martinsville and a 2006 graduate of Fairmont State University with a bachelors degree in history.

Phillips, in her third year at the law school , said being able to blog about the convention allows her fellow law students to share in what she will witness at the convention.

I am also excited to meet with various union representatives because I am very interested in both labor and employment law,she said.Additionally, I look forward to meeting with party leaders and seeing the ins and outs of the convention.

The ability to share her insights from the convention is an opportunity Phillips said she is excited about.

She will be volunteering for various campaign events and attending College Democrats meetings, a breakfast meeting hosted by U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and various events with the state Democratic Party. She is hopeful she will be among the estimated 75,000 people to hear Sen. Barrack Obamas acceptance speech, which has been moved from the Pepsi Center to Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium to accommodate the crowd.

I am also excited to just spend time with the other Young Democrats from West Virginia, she said.

Phillips is active in several organizations at the College of Law. She is a research editor for the West Virginia Law Review and vice president of the West Virginia Fund for Law in the Public Interest. She also works with the Public Interest Advocates student organization and is a Peer Group leader.
